Mancala African Stone Game : Strategy

Mancala is a two person strategy game that has successfully passed the test of time. Some accounts show the game dating back over 3,500 years. Each player selects an end bin. The object is to acccumulate the greatest number of stones in one's end bin. This very easy to learn game can be enjoyed by ages 6 to 137 years. One can easily develop a depth of strategy after playing for a period of time. The game includes 48 multi-colored semi-transparent "Gem-stones" used in play. They resemble flat marbles. Complete rules including 3 varying versions: one from Egypt, Nigeria and one from Ethiopia. Wood game board measures approximately 17 x 5 1/2 x 3/4 inch thick. Average game time is 15 to 20 minutes. Mancala also goes by the name Kahla, Kalah, Wari, Sowers Game. This game is often played in playgrounds, summer camps, Boys & Girls Clubs , YMCAS and other youth organizations.
